Physical protection
PPF Penang — Paint Protection Film
Self-healing thermoplastic polyurethane film, 150 to 200 microns thick, applied with wrapped edges by a certified installer. The only product on this site that actually stops stone chips.
Everything else on this site is chemical protection measured in microns you could scratch through with a fingernail. PPF is a physical barrier roughly 50 times thicker than a ceramic coating — enough to absorb the impact of gravel thrown off a lorry on the North–South Expressway.
The film is aliphatic TPU with an elastomeric topcoat. Light scratches and swirl marks in that topcoat close up when heated — leave the car in the Penang sun for twenty minutes and a fingernail mark disappears. That self-healing behaviour is genuine and it is the reason PPF outlasts everything else.
Who actually needs it
Three groups, in our experience. Owners of new or nearly-new cars protecting resale value. Owners crossing the bridge daily or running long expressway mileage, where the bonnet and bumper accumulate chips fast. And owners of dark or specialist paint — matte, satin, or soft factory finishes where a chip means an expensive respray that will never quite match.
Coverage options
Front-end kit (RM2,600–5,400) covers full bonnet, front bumper, front fenders, wing mirrors and headlights. This is where 80% of impact damage happens and it is the best value package we sell.
Track pack adds the A-pillars, roof leading edge and rocker panels — worth it for high-mileage expressway drivers.
Full body (RM9,000–18,000) covers every painted surface. Expensive, and it makes sense on cars where a respray would cost five figures or where the owner intends to keep the vehicle a decade.
Installation quality is the whole product
Two workshops can install identical film with completely different outcomes. What separates them is edge treatment. A wrapped edge — film tucked around the panel edge into the gap — is invisible and cannot lift or collect dirt. A cut edge left on the panel face is visible under raking light, catches contamination, and eventually peels. We wrap edges wherever the panel geometry allows, which is most of them. It takes longer. It is also the difference between PPF that looks factory and PPF that looks like a sticker.
Scope of work
What's included
Paint inspection and correction
Film is optically clear. Any swirl or defect underneath is locked in permanently, so paint must be corrected first — this is included, not optional.
Full decontamination
Iron fallout removal, clay bar and complete degrease. Any contamination left on the panel becomes a permanent bubble under the film.
Digital pattern cutting
Vehicle-specific patterns plotted and cut to your exact model and year, then hand-adjusted for panel variance.
Bulk-cut panels where needed
Bonnets and bumpers on some models are cut from bulk film rather than pattern, to allow full wrapped edges instead of a visible cut line.
Wrapped-edge installation
Film tucked into panel gaps and around edges wherever geometry allows, so no edge line is visible and nothing can lift.
Component removal
Badges, trims, headlights and handles removed where required for a clean tuck, then refitted.
Squeegee, tack and heat set
Slip solution worked out completely, then heat-set so the film conforms to curves and complex geometry without stretch marks.
48-hour settling period
Small amounts of installation solution remain under the film and dissipate over 24–48 hours. We inspect again before you collect.
Ceramic coating over the film (optional)
A coating on top of PPF adds hydrophobics and makes the film far easier to wash. Commonly bundled and strongly recommended.

Answers
Paint Protection Film (PPF) — questions we get asked
Is PPF better than ceramic coating?
They are not competing products. PPF is physical protection against impact — stone chips, light scratches, car park scuffs. Ceramic coating is chemical protection and gloss. PPF does not give you the slick hydrophobic surface that makes washing easy; coating does not stop a stone chip.
The complete answer for most owners is both: PPF on the front end where impact happens, ceramic coating over the whole car including on top of the film. Detailed comparison in ceramic coating vs PPF.
How much does PPF cost in Penang?
RM2,600 to RM3,800 for a full front-end kit on a sedan, and RM9,000 to RM18,000 for full-body coverage depending on vehicle size and film type. Partial front coverage starts around RM1,600. The single biggest variable after coverage is whether edges are wrapped, which takes considerably more labour but is what makes the install invisible.
Will PPF turn yellow in Malaysian sun?
Quality aliphatic TPU with a modern non-yellowing topcoat will not, and yellowing is explicitly covered by the manufacturer warranty we register in your name. What does yellow is cheap PVC film sold as PPF, and older-generation aromatic polyurethane. Ask any installer what material they are using and what the warranty covers — if the answer is vague, walk away.
Can PPF be removed later without damaging paint?
Yes, when it is done correctly and within the film's service life. The film is heated and peeled at a controlled angle, and adhesive residue is removed with a dedicated solvent. Paint underneath is typically in better condition than surrounding unprotected panels. Film left far beyond its life can become brittle and harder to remove, which is one reason we schedule replacement rather than letting it degrade.
Does the self-healing actually work?
Yes, for light surface marring in the topcoat — wash marring, fingernail scratches, light swirls. Heat from the sun or warm water closes them. It does not repair deep scratches that have cut through the topcoat into the film body, and it does not repair a tear. In Penang the ambient heat means self-healing is essentially continuous, which is one climate advantage we do get.
Can you install PPF over an existing wrap or coating?
Not over vinyl wrap — PPF adhesive needs to bond to paint, and film over vinyl will lift. Over an existing ceramic coating, the coating has to be polished off first, because PPF will not adhere reliably to a hydrophobic surface. Both cases are handled at the preparation stage and quoted accordingly.
