Paint Correction Penang
Machine polishing that physically removes defects from the clear coat rather than filling them. Paint depth measured before and after, recorded on your job sheet, and handed to you at collection.
Paint correction is the only service here that permanently removes something from your car. Every other treatment adds a layer. Correction levels the clear coat down to the base of a defect, which means it consumes a resource you cannot replace.
That is why we measure. A factory panel gives you roughly 35 to 55 microns of clear coat. A heavy compounding pass takes 3 to 5 microns. Do the arithmetic and most cars have three or four serious corrections in them before the clear coat is too thin to protect the colour underneath — at which point the only fix is a respray.
What we can remove, and what we cannot
The test is simple: run a fingernail across the defect. If your nail does not catch, we can almost certainly remove it. That covers swirl marks, holograms, buffer trails, water spot etching, light oxidation, bird dropping etch and most car-wash scratches.
If your nail catches, the scratch has cut through the clear coat into the base coat or primer. No amount of polishing removes it, because removing it means removing all the clear coat around it. Those need touch-up or a respray, and we will tell you which at inspection rather than charging you for a correction that cannot work.
Why we refuse to use fillers
Many workshops finish with a glaze or filler-heavy polish. It looks spectacular on collection day because the fillers sit in the swirls and hide them optically. Then it washes out over six to eight weeks and every defect reappears — and if a coating was applied on top, the coating's bond fails with it.
We correct with abrasives that cut and refine, then panel-wipe with IPA before final inspection so you are looking at the true corrected surface, not a temporarily filled one. Sometimes that means the result under inspection light is 88% rather than the 100% a filler would fake. It is the 88% that will still be there in two years.

What's included
Paint depth mapping
Digital gauge readings across bonnet, roof, doors, wings and boot, recorded before work starts. Thin or resprayed panels are flagged and treated conservatively or excluded.
Full decontamination
Foam pre-wash, two-bucket wash, iron fallout removal, tar removal and clay bar. Polishing contaminated paint grinds grit into the clear coat.
Test spot
A small section corrected with progressively more aggressive combinations until the defects clear. We use the least aggressive one that works, not the fastest.
Compounding stage
Cutting pad and compound to remove deeper defects. Panel temperature and pad condition monitored throughout — heat is what causes holograms.
Refining stage
Finishing polish on a softer pad to remove compounding marks and restore full optical clarity. This is the stage most cheap jobs skip.
IPA panel wipe and inspection
All polishing oils removed, then inspection under three-angle LED lighting so what you see is the real result.
Post-correction depth readings
Gauge readings repeated and recorded, so you know exactly how much clear coat was used and how much remains.
Protection applied
Bare corrected paint oxidises fast. We finish with a sealant as standard, or you can add a ceramic or graphene coating to lock the result in for years.

Paint Correction — questions we get asked
Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?
Almost always. A coating is optically clear and semi-permanent, so any defect underneath is sealed in for its full service life and becomes more visible because the coating adds gloss. The only exception is a brand-new car collected within days of delivery, and even those usually need a light enhancement polish because transport film and dealer washes leave marks.
Will correction remove deep scratches?
If your fingernail catches in the scratch, no — it has gone through the clear coat and polishing cannot reach the bottom without removing everything around it. We will identify these at inspection and either recommend touch-up, or in isolated cases wet sanding, or tell you plainly that living with it is the sensible option.
How many times can a car be corrected?
Typically three or four full corrections in the car's lifetime, though it depends entirely on how much clear coat the factory laid down and how aggressive previous work was. This is why we measure and record depth every time — so on your next correction, here or anywhere else, there is a documented history of what has already been used.
What causes swirl marks in the first place?
Contact. Specifically: automatic brush washes (by far the largest cause in Malaysia), single-bucket washing that drags grit back onto the paint, dirty or dropped wash mitts, drying with a chamois pulled across a panel, and dusters used on a dry car. Our car wash mistakes guide covers all nine.
Can you correct a car that has been resprayed?
Yes, with caution. Respray clear coat is often thinner and softer than factory, and fresh paint needs 30–60 days to fully gas off before it can be polished or coated. We identify resprayed panels at intake with the depth gauge — they read noticeably differently — and adjust our approach panel by panel.
