Car Wrap Penang
Full and partial colour change in cast vinyl or PET film, installed over corrected, decontaminated paint with edges wrapped into the panel gaps. Reversible, and it protects the paint underneath while it is on.
A wrap changes how your car looks without touching the factory paint. Done properly it is fully reversible, and when it comes off years later the paint underneath is usually in better condition than the panels that were exposed.
Cast vinyl and PET are not the same
Cast vinyl is manufactured by casting liquid PVC onto a sheet, which produces a film with almost no built-in tension. That means it conforms to complex curves without wanting to shrink back, and it stays put on mirrors, bumpers and door handles. Expect five to seven years of service life in Penang. This is what you want for a full colour change.
Calendered vinyl is rolled rather than cast, retains tension, and will lift on curves and recessed areas within a year or two. It is cheaper. It is also the reason so many wrapped cars in Malaysia have peeling bumper corners. We do not use it for colour changes.
PET film is the newer option — thinner, with a genuinely glass-like gloss that gets closest to a factory paint finish, and much better heat and UV resistance than PVC. It costs more and is less forgiving to install, but on a car that lives in the Penang sun it holds its finish considerably longer.
Preparation is not optional
Vinyl is thin and it conforms to whatever is underneath. Every piece of grit, every tar spot, every raised paint defect telegraphs through the film and becomes a visible bump. Worse, contamination compromises adhesion and causes lifting later.
So a wrap job starts with the same decontamination and, where needed, correction as a coating job. If a workshop quotes you a wrap without discussing paint preparation, that is a warning sign about everything else in the install.

Paint inspection and preparation
Full decontamination, and light correction where raised defects would telegraph through the film. Failing clear coat is identified — wrap over it and the film pulls paint off on removal.
Panel disassembly
Handles, badges, lights, trims and mirror caps removed where required so film can be tucked rather than cut at the edge.
Film selection and colour approval
Physical samples viewed on your car in daylight. Colour behaves very differently on a panel than in a swatch book.
Precision cutting and application
Panels wrapped individually with heat and tension controlled to avoid stretch distortion, particularly on bumpers and mirrors.
Edge wrapping and post-heating
Film tucked around edges and into gaps, then post-heated to the manufacturer's specified temperature so it sets and will not retract.
Reassembly and inspection
All components refitted, then a full inspection under LED lighting for lifted edges, bubbles or contamination.
48-hour settling and re-check
The car rests indoors and we re-inspect before handover. Small issues that appear as the film settles are corrected then, not after you have driven away.

Car Wrap — questions we get asked
Will a wrap damage my paint?
Not if the factory paint is sound. Quality cast vinyl uses an adhesive designed for clean removal and, on healthy paint, comes off without residue years later. The paint underneath is typically better preserved than exposed panels.
The exception is paint that was already failing — a poor respray, or clear coat that has begun to delaminate. Vinyl adhesive can be stronger than that bond and will lift paint on removal. We check for this at inspection and will decline the job rather than create that problem for you.
How long does a car wrap last in Malaysia?
Five to seven years for quality cast vinyl, and longer for PET film, assuming the car is not parked in direct sun 24 hours a day. Our UV load is high, so horizontal surfaces — bonnet and roof — always age faster than vertical panels. Cheap calendered vinyl will start lifting within 12–24 months.
Wrap or PPF — which should I get?
Different purposes entirely. Wrap is aesthetic: it changes colour, offers modest protection, and is designed to be removed. PPF is protective: optically clear, self-healing, 150–200 microns thick, engineered to absorb stone chips. If you want your car a different colour, wrap. If you want to stop chips, PPF. Can I wrap just part of the car?
Yes, and partial wraps are very common. Roof wraps in gloss black, bonnet accents, chrome delete on window trim and grilles, and mirror caps are all frequently requested. Chrome delete in particular is inexpensive and transforms how a car looks.
How do I wash a wrapped car?
Hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo, two-bucket method, no automatic brush washes. Avoid pressure washing directly at edges and seams — that is what lifts film. Avoid solvent-based cleaners and never use polish or wax containing abrasives. A dedicated vinyl-safe sealant, or a coating specified for wrap, keeps the finish looking new.
